Practice Setting
• Coordinated care efforts with physicians and support staff for the highest acuity cardiac and lung patients, specializing in heart and lung transplant surgeries.
• Monitoring and recording vital signs, EKGs, ventilation, pain, levels of consciousness, symptoms, and changes in the patient’s condition. Administer medications as determined by patient’s condition.
• Assist physicians in bedside tracheostomies, bronchoscopies, chest-tube and pericardial drains, epidurals, thoracentesis, and open-chest CPR.
• Provide extensive post-operative wound care- including prophylaxis, identification, and treatment care for surgical wounds the highest progression of pressure injuries, abscesses, and ulcerations. Performed debridement of wounds, identification of infection, and determination of optimal wound treatment modalities.
• Provide holistic patient education to elevate quality and consistency of care, boost patient self management, improve patient satisfaction and outcomes, and ensure proper quality of life conversations with each patient as an individual.
Preceptorship Description
Oversaw patients of the highest acuity of care requiring Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO), Left Ventricular Assist Devices, Impella, Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy (CRRT), and Ventilation management.
